What does melanin do in our skin?

By Robert

Have you ever wondered why you have the skin color that you have? Well look no further, because the answers are below. First of all, melanin, a chemical or pigment in the skin gives us our skin color and also our hair color. Also the sun’s ultra-violet rays (UVR) can cause our skin to become darker. The rays also damage the cells in our skin. They can cause our skin to become darker because our skin is making more melanin. Melanin prevents skin cancer. What actually gives us color is eumelanin. Some people have a lack of melanin. This is because of vitiligo, a disease of the skin.  So if you ever wondered what melanin does in your skin you can just read above to answer that question.
